Love You Like No Otter

One of my favorite spreads from an upcoming book in progress. I could stare at the water and colors all day. This spread was created from a mixture of paint swatches and digital drawings. It’s also a collaboration between my husband and I where he helped make the otter as cute as can be.

After 10 years of working together, we finally started combining our styles and it’s been a heartwarming process to see everything unfold. Our process has been a work in progress, but it’s went a little something like this for me: Write poem, draft ideas x 4, get Drew’s feedback, sketch out full spreads in black & white, play with colors, have a breakthrough on the spreads, go back to black & white, add more pages, color block, draw lots and lots of plants, give Drew a detailed list of all animals, trees, and sunsets. Voila!
